Walk-in Wardrobes in Blackwall

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Blackwall, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Proper shoe storage
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • Storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Blackwall

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors give a tidy, finished look and help keep dust away, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We will go through the options during the design visit. Typical reasons to get in touch are long and double hanging planned around your clothes and somewhere to sit and get ready, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

A large number of homes around Blackwall date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats with compact bedrooms. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxing for pipes and risers is designed around rather than left as dead space.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Blackwall

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Blackwall?

Yes. Blackwall is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets and London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Blackwall?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it is useful to be around at the end.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

How long does fitting take?

Every room is different. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start.

Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?

There’s no single right answer. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we will talk it through at the design visit.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Arranging a design visit

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

High shelves suit things you use less often, with everyday items lower down.

Drawers keep smaller clothes and accessories tidy, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.

Why bespoke in Blackwall?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. In return, the layout is built around your clothes and your room. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, whereas fitted furniture is made in sections that fit. It’s then assembled and fixed in the room.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Why us?

  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Saturdays by arrangement

Tips worth knowing

People planning walk-in wardrobes often ask about these. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:

  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Measure how much long hanging you need
  • Keep the room ventilated

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.

Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. The amount of long hanging, double hanging, shelving and shoe storage depends on what you own, so it’s worth having a sort-out first.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

There’s no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • The overall size of the piece
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Doors and drawers, and how many

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Helping us understand the room

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. It is useful to include:

  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • How you want to use the space
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.
