Fitted wardrobes for homes in Fulham

Hanging heights are planned around your clothes, not a catalogue. A tall section suits long coats and dresses, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We plan for the people using it too, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. If your home has condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes, fitted wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

In houses built before 1919, a floor can drop noticeably from one side of a room to the other, and a large share of the homes around Fulham are that old. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so the doors line up and the gaps run straight. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

What happens on fitting day

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

  1. It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Starting with a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Fulham homes and fitted wardrobes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Fulham were built before 1919 (about 67%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 13%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Fulham, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in Fulham is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

For a family home near St Johns Walham Green Church of England Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Fulham Palace, about 0.7 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If you live in a period home close to St. Peter's Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you cover homes near West Brompton station?

Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.

Does a conservation area in or near Fulham affect fitted furniture?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included, in the proportions you need. We talk it through at the measuring visit.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

How long will the fitting take?

It depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop.

What it costs

What you pay depends on:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking near your home
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

Helping us understand the room

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing, so you can take your time with it. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the measuring visit.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit.

Is bespoke worth it?

Standard wardrobes can’t follow a slope. A fitted wardrobe can be shaped to the ceiling line, with hanging where it is tall and drawers or shelves where it’s low. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, wasting space that could hold things you rarely use. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
