Our fitted wardrobes across EC1R
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. Hinged doors open a whole section at once, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, but only part of the inside is open at any one time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about clothes with nowhere proper to go and a bedroom that never feels tidy.
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
- You receive a quote in writing for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
What affects the price in EC1R
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit.

Around Farringdon
Our area takes in the homes around St Mary-at-Hill, Barts Health Archives and Barbican Conservatory and the streets around them. Other local landmarks include Charterhouse Square School (close by, under half a mile east), St John Clerkenwell (less than half a mile north), St Peter and St Paul RC Primary School (under half a mile north) and The Castle Public House (less than half a mile south-west). Farringdon has its own railway station: Farringdon station. Nearby you’ll also find Montfichet's Tower (0.5 miles south) and Finsbury Health Centre (under half a mile north-west). Green spaces nearby include Barnsbury Wood and Ludgate Hill.
Fitted wardrobes for homes across EC1R
EC1R has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. The design follows the room, not a catalogue.
The biggest shares of homes in the EC1R postcode district were built before 1919 (about 31%) and since 2000 (about 28%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. About 28% of homes in the EC1R postcode district were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs. About 80% of households in the EC1R postcode district live in purpose-built flats, based on Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Our area covers the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City, EC1R included. Wherever you are, the job starts with a design visit.
Farringdon: If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Priory Church of St John of Jerusalem, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live near Barbican Conservatory, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.
What affects the price in EC1R
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- The width and height of the space
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The internal fittings
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
What to send when you contact us
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.
Boards, parts and paint
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front, depending on the look you prefer. Inside drawers keep the front simple.
Hanging rails
We keep the top rail at a height you can reach. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in EC1R
After a loft conversion, the new bedroom normally needs storage that suits the slopes. Wardrobes built under the slope use space that would otherwise sit empty.
We are often asked to help with:
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Not enough hanging space
- Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
- Clothes with nowhere proper to go
Could you do it yourself?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
What we don’t do
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Building work to create a loft room
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
Questions we are often asked
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You will get a written quote once we’ve measured up.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
How do I get a quote?
Just get in touch through our contact form. It’s useful to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
Everything is made at our workshop for your room, then fitted in your home. It’s built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better. We look at it with you when we measure.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
