Fitted Wardrobes in Farringdon

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on fitted wardrobes in Farringdon starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • Not enough hanging space
  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • A bedroom that never feels tidy

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

Before and after fitting day

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Think about where you will keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
  • Work out the split between long and short hanging

Fill the rails gradually and spread the weight along them rather than packing one end. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support.

Close doors gently and don’t let them swing into furniture, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It keeps hinges and runners in adjustment longer.

About our fitted wardrobes in Farringdon

An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are not enough hanging space and damp or musty clothes against an external wall.

Most households around Farringdon live in purpose-built flats, and in a flat, bedrooms rarely have space to spare. Taking fitted furniture up to the ceiling adds storage without using more floor. The furniture is built in sections that fit the route into the flat, and assembled once it’s inside.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

How fitting day works

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. With little room to spare in a flat, pieces come in as they’re needed. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Fixings are chosen for each wall, solid or plasterboard.

  1. You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Before we arrive

Arranging a design visit

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

What we do not do

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Farringdon?

Yes. We cover all of Islington and the rest of London, and Farringdon is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

How do you fit fitted wardrobes in a flat in Farringdon?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How long will the fitting take?

The fitting depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The wardrobes are made in our workshop first before we come to fit them.

Is it possible to have storage over the bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

What it’s made from

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface on large doors. It suits a crisp, modern look as well as a classic panelled door.

Birch plywood

Wardrobe shelves can carry more weight than you’d think. Birch plywood helps keep them straight.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

Bedrooms in Farringdon: local notes

In the neighbourhood around Farringdon, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 32%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 28%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Farringdon is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 83% of households around Farringdon live in purpose-built flats, well above the figure for Islington as a whole, about 57%, the 2021 Census shows. That puts the stairs, lifts and doors on the route in at the centre of the plan.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Priory Church of St John of Jerusalem, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. If you live in a period home close to St John Clerkenwell, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Close to Barbican Conservatory? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.
