How fitting day works

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so home offices are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about a home office.
  2. We visit to measure and talk about the equipment you use.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We make the desk, shelves and cupboards in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave it ready for work, with the cable routes left open.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a written quote. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Fitted home offices in West End

Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, shaped by the way you work. For a home in West End, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are glare from a window on the screen and a guest room that’s needed for work.

Many Victorian and Edwardian houses have a bay window in the front room, and the alcoves beside the chimney breast can take books and files. If your home is one of the many around West End built before 1919, a front room like that can become a study without losing its character. Everything is scribed to the room’s own walls.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

When is bespoke worth it?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

What it’s made from

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the office. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting on site lets the office be finished alongside the woodwork around it. Marks can be touched in without much trouble. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.

Honest limits

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:

  • Installing IT equipment or broadband
  • Building a loft conversion, which is not our work
  • New sockets, data points or wiring, which are for your electrician

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Filing drawers
  • Built-in desks
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Cable routes
  • Hand-painted finish

The problems fitted home offices solve

Trailing cables are one of the things people most want to sort. Planned routes through the desk keep cables out of sight. Any new sockets are for your electrician, and we design around them.

Fitted home offices can help with:

  • Flimsy shelves that will not take the weight
  • Work things on show in the evening
  • An alcove or landing that could take a desk
  • A spare room that has to be an office and a guest room

The wider area includes historic houses like Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.4 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether you will get a written quote, not just a figure
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?

Questions from West End

Can you make fitted home offices for a home in West End?

Yes, we work across Camden, West End included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.

Is parking a problem for fitting in West End?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It’s made in sections, sized for the route as well as the room. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

We don’t do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. It helps to agree the positions during the design visit.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Fitted home offices for homes in West End

In the neighbourhood around West End, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 49%) and the years since 2000 (about 21%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of West End, 30 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in West End is covered by it. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Mary's Church, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. If you live in a flat close to Tottenham Court Road station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

West End is part of the London Borough of Camden, about 1 mile north-east of St Pancras. Homes in West End are part of the area we cover for fitted home offices. Our work takes in places right across Camden.

Every home in W1F, W1D and W1T is within our area for fitted home offices. We cover homes on streets such as Duck Lane, Drury Lane and Bridle Lane, whether you want fitted home offices or another piece made for the room. West End sits close to the A301 and A400. If your home is on one of them, tell us during the design visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. We also cover the places around West End: Seven Dials (1 mile east), St Giles (1 mile north-east), Soho (1 mile west), Chinatown (1 mile south-west) and Covent Garden (1 mile east).
