What affects the cost of fitted home offices

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How big the furniture is
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Tricky rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

Getting in touch

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It’s enough to send:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

Fitted home offices for homes in West Green

Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. We design and make built-in desks, shelving and storage for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and the space under the eaves, planned around how you work. For a home in West Green, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If you’re living with shelving that bows under the load and working at the kitchen table, home offices made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

With a large share of homes around West Green built before 1919, a small back bedroom or the box room often becomes the office. Home offices can make that room work, with the desk under the window or across an alcove. Cable routes are planned so they run neatly to the sockets, and any new sockets are for your electrician.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What it is made from

Doors and drawer fronts

We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Panels can echo the woodwork in an older room. The gaps are kept even all along.

Birch plywood

Shelves full of books and files carry real weight. We use birch plywood for shelves that carry a load. Long spans need a thicker shelf, a lip or a support.

How fitting day works

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so home offices are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.

  1. You contact us about a home office in a spare room, alcove, landing or under the eaves.
  2. We visit to measure the space, including any slope, alcove or uneven wall.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. In our workshop the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the office in your home, trimming the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
  6. The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.

Before we arrive

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Ask for a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Your questions about fitted home offices in West Green

Do you cover homes near Seven Sisters station?

Yes, homes across Haringey and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

My house in West Green is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Can you fit a desk under a sloping ceiling?

Yes, if the loft is already a converted room. We plan around the headroom, so the desk sits where you can stand up. Lower areas can take cupboards and shelves.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Can the spare room be an office and a guest room?

Often, yes. We plan the office so there’s still space for guests, or with doors that close over the desk. If space is tight, a wall bed can be built in alongside.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

New sockets need an electrician. We plan the furniture around them, with cable routes through the desk and units. They can then be fitted where we have allowed for them.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

Built-in desks and shelving in West Green

About 61% of the homes in the area around West Green went up before 1919, and about 14% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of West Green include Parish Church of St Ann (Grade II*), under half a mile south-east, and The Salisbury Public House (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. More than half of the homes in the area around West Green (about 61%) were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses of that age often have alcoves beside a chimney breast that can take a desk, with shelving above.

If your children go to West Green Primary School or a school nearby, a desk long enough for two can serve a laptop and a homework book side by side. If your home is one of the older houses near St Philip the Apostle, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk. Bruce Castle, about 1.1 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.
