Gidea Park Loft Storage

We make loft storage for homes in Gidea Park, designed around the room you have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Unused space in a dormer
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • Standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs

Fitted storage in Gidea Park

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Gidea Park were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 40%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There are 10 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Gidea Park. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.

Close to Raphael Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If you live in a period home close to St Michael and All Angels Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. If your children go to Royal Liberty School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

How we make loft storage for Gidea Park

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, all made for the shape of the room. For a home in Gidea Park, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If your home has a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and nowhere to store bags and boxes, eaves cupboards made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Around Gidea Park, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.

Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Caring for painted furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Note how narrow the loft stairs are

Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps keep the loft in good order.

Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. Tightening early stops a small looseness getting worse. If something stops working smoothly, tell us about the room on our contact form and describe it.

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store, including the eaves and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured.
  3. The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows, with the finish set out.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Before we arrive

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Advice

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It forms the doors and panels.

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters. It goes into the carcasses, the drawers and the shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.

FAQs: loft storage in Gidea Park

I live near Gidea Park station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Gidea Park?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The storage is made in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there’s height. It makes the most of the space. We’ll work out the layout when we visit.

Pricing loft storage in Gidea Park

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.

Before the design visit

Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:

  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

To get a quote for loft storage in Gidea Park, tell us about the room on our contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, with sizes if you have them. We’ll arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.
