Loft storage in Shepherd's Bush
A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. Our loft storage includes eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers, wardrobes under sloping ceilings and dormer shelving, each shaped to the room. For a home in Shepherd's Bush, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. Typical reasons to get in touch are low eaves that nobody can use and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Hallways in period terraces are often long and narrow, with the stairs rising along one wall. Around Shepherd's Bush, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so every bit of depth is weighed up when storage is planned. Shallow units keep the way through clear.
We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Shepherd's Bush homes and loft storage
In the streets around Shepherd's Bush, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 67%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 14%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Part of Shepherd's Bush is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. So a van fitting furniture in Shepherd's Bush normally needs a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay arranged through the council. We ask about parking during the design visit, so the van can be planned for.
For a flat near Shepherds Bush station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live in a period home close to Shepherd's Bush Tabernacle, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. Close to Hammersmith Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.
Shepherd's Bush is about 2 miles south of Fulham, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, Shepherd's Bush included. Across Hammersmith and Fulham, we cover Shepherd's Bush, along with the rest of the borough.
Every address in W12, W11 and W14 is within our area for loft storage, from the main roads to the quieter streets. If your home is on a street like Bard Road, Stowe Road and Wells Road, or close by, we can visit to measure up for loft storage. Shepherd's Bush sits close to the A402, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. We also cover the places around Shepherd's Bush: White City (1 mile north), Holland Park (1 mile east), Notting Hill (1 mile north-east), Kensington (1 mile east) and Notting Dale (1 mile north-east). Across the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham, our area takes in Fulham (2 miles south), Parsons Green (2 miles south-east), Walham Green (2 miles south-east), West Brompton (2 miles south-east), Hurlingham (2 miles south) and Chelsea Harbour (3 miles south-east).
What’s near Shepherd's Bush
Our area takes in the homes around The Central Bar, Polish Library POSK in London and Corona Theatre School and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Shepherd's Bush itself: Shepherds Bush station. A little further out are West 12 Shepherds Bush (close by, under half a mile east) and Culture House (less than half a mile west). Green spaces nearby include Campden Hill.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Before and after fitting day
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:
- Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
- Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
- Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
When you load the drawers and cupboards, put heavy things low. It helps the runners and keeps the storage working well. We size the shelves for what you said you’d keep there.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If a door drops or a drawer catches, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us.
How fitting works for loft storage
At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it’s useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.
Before we arrive
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
Ask for a quote
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Boards, parts and paint
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. We apply it in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF cuts cleanly, which suits the angled panels under a sloping ceiling. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. Most of what you see is MDF.
What we do not do
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out
- Any work on the structure of the house
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Questions we are often asked
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Shepherd's Bush?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you fit loft storage to the uneven walls of an older house in Shepherd's Bush?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Which materials go into your loft storage?
The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.
How long will the loft storage fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Because everything is made in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.
Will you travel outside London?
No. We work in London and nowhere else.
