Loft storage in Streatham Park
About our loft storage in Streatham Park
Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. For a home in Streatham Park, it is planned around your things. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a new loft conversion that needs storage and a boarded loft with no proper shelving.
Around Streatham Park, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and older houses have lots of odd corners: the space under the stairs, the bay at the front, the alcoves, the hallway recesses and, where the loft has been converted, the eaves. Fitted storage is designed to make those spaces useful, scribed to walls that are rarely straight.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

What happens on fitting day
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so eaves cupboards are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.
- It starts when you get in touch with a few details about the loft.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you, including the headroom under the slope.
- You receive a written quote for the storage we’ve discussed, for you to look over.
- We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope.
- The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before fitting day
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
Starting with a design visit
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
What affects the cost of loft storage
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The number of doors and drawers
- The width and height of the space
- Parking near your home
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Helping us understand the room
You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Loft storage for homes in Streatham Park
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Streatham Park were built before 1919 (about 63%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 12%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Streatham Park is in the Streatham Park Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. A van working in Streatham Park will typically need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.
If you live near Streatham Common, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. Living in a block of flats near Streatham station? Then eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is one of the older houses near Parish Church of St Alban, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

What it is made from
Hand-painted finish
Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can match the skirting and doors.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. It goes into the carcasses, the drawers and the shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.
Before and after fitting day
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Count the clothes you will need to hang
- Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. If anything isn’t right with the storage, tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll talk it through.
Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. It helps to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.
Why bespoke in Streatham Park?
Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. We make each piece in sections that fit up the stairs. That makes it possible to fit large pieces in a small loft. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it cannot tip, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. Fitted furniture is designed with the wall in mind.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

FAQs: loft storage in Streatham Park
Is parking a problem for fitting in Streatham Park?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Do you make loft storage for homes in Streatham Park?
Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London, and Streatham Park is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.
Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?
A good design avoids that. We look behind the knee wall at the design visit and plan the storage so air can still move. We do not alter insulation or vents.
How is loft storage priced?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and we will arrange a design visit.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We plan it at the measuring visit.
