Loft Storage in East Wickham

In East Wickham, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Unused space in a dormer
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished

Loft storage for your home in East Wickham

How we make loft storage for East Wickham

Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there is often space going to waste. Cupboards and drawers set into the knee wall make that space useful. Pull-out drawers mean you don’t have to crawl in. At the design visit in East Wickham, we’ll see what fits. Typical reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft with no proper shelving and unused space in a dormer, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. Around East Wickham, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, fitted storage near the front door can take much of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

What it’s made from

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF cuts cleanly, which suits the angled panels under a sloping ceiling. The grade we use is moisture-resistant and paints well. Most of what you see is MDF.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting on site lets the storage be finished alongside the woodwork around it. It is easy to touch up later. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.

How we price loft storage

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The width and height of the space
  • The internal fittings
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Before the design visit

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • How you want to use the space
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

To get a quote for loft storage in East Wickham, tell us about the room on our contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

Loft storage for homes in East Wickham

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 57% of the housing in the streets around East Wickham, with about 16% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of East Wickham, going by Historic England’s data. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

For a flat near Welling station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If you live near Shoulder of Mutton Green, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If your children go to East Wickham Primary Academy or a school nearby, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

What happens on fitting day

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in as well as the room. Eaves cupboards arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Arranging a design visit

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Questions from East Wickham

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Welling station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in East Wickham?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Does eaves storage affect the insulation?

It shouldn’t, if it is designed properly. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

What we do not do

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Building work to turn a loft into a room
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can send us a few details through our contact form and we will tell you. Our process from visit to fitting.

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?

Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. Our storage is made in sections sized for the route. That makes it possible to fit large pieces in a small loft. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
