How we make loft storage for Harringay

Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. We measure the route not just the room, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It’s a step that matters for any loft in Harringay. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are an empty dormer that could hold shelves and a loft room with too many jobs.

A large share of the homes around Harringay were built before 1919, and houses of that age are full of tricky spaces: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. Fitted storage is designed to make those spaces useful, scribed to walls that are rarely straight.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished.

Loft storage in Harringay: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Harringay were built before 1919 (about 75%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 8%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Harringay, Historic England’s list includes The Salisbury Public House (Grade II*), less than half a mile north, and Church of St John the Baptist (greek Orthodox) (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. More than half of the homes in the streets around Harringay (about 75%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Loft conversions are common in London terraces, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings that storage can use.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 1.6 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. If you live in a period home close to St Paul's Harringay, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live in a flat close to Harringay Green Lanes station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Harringay is about 2 miles north-east of Tottenham, part of the London Borough of Haringey. Whether your home in Harringay is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We cover places right across Haringey, large and small.

Flats, leases and landlords

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out, and the sections are joined and scribed in the room.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level.

Could you do it yourself?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Your questions about loft storage in Harringay

My home in Harringay is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

My home in Harringay is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We will design around them.

How is loft storage priced?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. We set it all out in a written quote.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there’s height. It makes the most of the space. We’ll work out the layout when we visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made wardrobes and cupboards are built for standard rooms. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is the space it uses. Alcoves and recesses in period houses are rarely a standard width or depth, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Made for the space, the furniture uses the full width and height.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
