Loft storage for your home in Hyde farm estate
How we make loft storage for Hyde farm estate
Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. We measure the route as well as the room, so every section made in our workshop fits up the stairs. It’s a step that matters for any loft in Hyde farm estate. Most enquiries start with an empty dormer that could hold shelves and seasonal things cluttering the loft room; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Older homes like many around Hyde farm estate have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of homes around Hyde farm estate are that old. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that isn’t. Original skirting and mouldings are met neatly.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
From workshop to your room
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Hand painting, if that’s your finish, can follow the fitting.
- First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store.
- At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured, as everything has to get up there.
- The design is agreed and a written quote follows.
- The storage is made at our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
How to get a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Tips worth knowing
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
- Let us know about parking during the design visit
- Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
- Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
When we have finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.
Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Squashed insulation works less well. If you notice damp or condensation behind the eaves, ask whoever converted the loft.

If you live in a flat close to Balham station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live near Wandsworth Common, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as St Bede's Roman Catholic Primary School, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. Where other trades come in
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out
- Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
What it is made from
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
- Hand-painted finish
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Birch plywood
- Eaves doors and drawers
How it is made
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done in your home after fitting. It’s easy to touch up if it gets marked. That helps in a well-used bedroom.
Plinths and scribe strips
The floor in a loft room is rarely perfectly level. A plinth or adjustable feet let us set the storage level, so the doors and drawers run true.
Common questions about loft storage
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Hyde farm estate?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Hyde farm estate?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you make good the walls afterwards?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you’ve chosen.
What happens at the design visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Where is the furniture made?
It’s made in our workshop. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
