How fitting day works
On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.
- You tell us about the room and who the bed is for.
- We visit to measure up and look at what the wall is made of, as the bed must be fixed securely.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
- We build and finish everything in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the cabinet is fitted and the bed checked as it lowers and lifts.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
Arranging a design visit
We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a written quote. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Wall beds in Mayfair
Studio flats benefit more than most from a bed that folds away. During the day, the room is somewhere to sit, work and eat, and at night it becomes a bedroom. Storage and shelving can go on either side or above to make the most of the wall. If you’re living with a playroom that can sleep visitors and a study that doubles as a spare room, that is what wall beds are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Around Mayfair, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted furniture can fill the alcoves, wrap round the chimney breast or run across a whole wall. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely true, so the pieces are scribed to the wall and levelled at the base.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Bed mechanism housing
The bed sits inside a cabinet built around its mechanism, fixed securely as its maker specifies. When the bed is up, the front looks like cupboard doors.
Shelves
Shelf spans and depths are sized so they do not sag.
Bedrooms in Mayfair: local notes
About 51% of the homes in the streets around Mayfair went up before 1919, and about 20% since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Mayfair, Historic England’s list includes Naval and Military Club (Grade I), under half a mile south, and Church of St Mark's (Grade I), under half a mile north-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. Where a home in Mayfair is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If you live in a flat close to Bond Street station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For a family home near LITE Regal International School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live in a period home close to Grosvenor Chapel, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.
Mayfair is in the City of Westminster, about 1 mile north-west of City of Westminster. From period terraces to newer flats in Mayfair, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our work takes in places right across Westminster, large and small.
We make wall beds across W1K, W1F and W1U. Streets in the area include Park Lane, Bruton Lane and Market Mews, and homes on each of them are within our area for wall beds. Main roads around Mayfair include the A4201 and A4202, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. Other places close to Mayfair include Burlington Estate (1 mile east), City of Westminster (1 mile north-west), Marylebone (1 mile north), St James's (1 mile east) and Chinatown (1 mile east). Elsewhere in Westminster, we also cover Westbourne (2 miles west), Little Venice (2 miles north-west), Westbourne Green (2 miles west), Pimlico (2 miles south), Maida Vale (2 miles north-west) and St John's Wood (2 miles north-west).

Questions we’re often asked
My house in Mayfair is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in Mayfair?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
Do you make the furniture yourselves?
We make it in our workshop, to the design and sizes agreed after the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
Do you cover Mayfair?
Yes. We cover Mayfair and the rest of Westminster, as part of our work across all London boroughs. To get a quote, message us from the contact page.
What are your wall beds made from?
We build with moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job best. The materials are named in your written quote.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Honest limits
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Electrical work for reading lights
- Making good the walls after other work
- Strengthening or rebuilding a wall
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.
Boards, parts and finishes
- Hand-painted finish
- Fold-down bed mechanism
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Shelves or a desk alongside
- Moisture-resistant MDF
What it costs
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- The width and height of the space
- The internal fittings
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Helping us understand the room
What helps most when you first contact us:
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, message us from the contact page.
