Noel Park TV and Media Units
In Noel Park, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
- A big screen that dominates the wall
- Bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room
TV and media units for your home in Noel Park
Is it time for TV and media units?
Upgrading to a bigger screen is a common trigger. The old stand no longer suits it, or the screen takes over the room. A unit around it puts it in proportion.
Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:
- Space for a soundbar and speakers
- Wasted space around the screen
- Boxes and consoles on the floor
- Standard units leaving gaps
If you live near Ducketts Common, TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.
What to check before you book
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- How they handle walls that are not straight
- Real projects you can actually look at
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
TV and media units in Noel Park: what you get
In many period living rooms, the chimney breast and its two alcoves shape the whole wall. Cupboards and shelves in the alcoves can hold the boxes, speakers and books, with the TV in one alcove or on the chimney breast. Any chimney vent is kept clear. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are bought furniture that doesn’t suit the room and speakers muffled behind doors.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often taller than in later houses, and a large share of the homes around Noel Park date from then. That gives full-height TV and media units room to reach the picture rail or the cornice, with the top line set to match the room’s own mouldings. Where a fireplace has been blocked up, the chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before units go in.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It describes the TV unit we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
How fitting day works
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You tell us about the room and what the unit needs to hold, from set-top boxes to speakers.
- We come to measure and talk through screen height, speakers and cables, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
- A quote in writing follows.
- We then make the unit in our workshop, with cable routes planned in.
- The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.
Before fitting day
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
Starting with a design visit
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
Before and after fitting day
These points come up often when people plan TV and media units. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- Think about the viewing height from your sofa
- Think about which things need to be seen by a remote
- Let us know about access early
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
Paint is dry to the touch well before it has fully cured. For the first while, place equipment gently rather than sliding it to avoid marks.
Avoid piling devices on one shelf because heat builds up between them. Each one needs space around it.
Your questions about TV and media units in Noel Park
Do you cover homes near Alexandra Palace station?
Yes, homes across Haringey and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Noel Park?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
What happens during the design visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
What it costs
There is no set price, because there’s no set room. The things that affect it are:
- The overall size of the piece
- How many doors and drawers there are
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that’s part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
What we need to know
What helps most when you first contact us:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
For a quote for TV and media units in Noel Park, tell us about the room on our contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea. We will arrange a design visit, then send a quote in writing.
Noel Park homes and TV and media units
In the area around Noel Park, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 59%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 14%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Noel Park include Top Rank Club (Grade II*), under half a mile west, and Church of St Mark (Grade II), under half a mile south-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 23% of households in the neighbourhood around Noel Park, the 2021 Census shows. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the route in may go through a shared hall and stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
For an older house near Church of St Mark, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. If your children go to Noel Park Primary School or a school nearby, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else.
