North Harrow Loft Storage

In North Harrow, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs

Loft storage for your home in North Harrow

About our loft storage in North Harrow

Dormers are a natural place for shelving or a small desk. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. Each piece is scribed to the dormer. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. We’ll go through the options in North Harrow. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a converted loft with no fitted furniture and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised.

Landings in houses from between the wars are often roomier than in a Victorian terrace, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. Around North Harrow, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, it’s worth looking up as well as down. If a boiler or cylinder sits there, it keeps its clearances and access.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Fitted storage in North Harrow

About 54% of the homes in the streets around North Harrow went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 23% before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of North Harrow, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Alban (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west, and The Rayners Public House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 52% of households in the area around North Harrow, based on Census 2021. A house like that typically has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

For a family home near Longfield Primary School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. Headstone Manor, about 0.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

How fitting day works

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. It starts with some details from you.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design and finish.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.

Before fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

How to get a quote

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To arrange the visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Related advice

Is it time for loft storage?

Loft rooms that double as offices or guest rooms need places for things. Built-in storage under the slopes keeps the room flexible.

Loft storage can help with:

  • Boxes piled on loft boards
  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

If you live near Headstone Manor Recreation Ground, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

Pricing loft storage in North Harrow

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:

  • How big the furniture is
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Helping us understand the room

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around

To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Common questions about loft storage

Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in North Harrow?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

I live near Harrow-on-the-Hill station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?

Measuring the route is part of the design visit. We size every section for the tightest turn, and then assembled in the loft.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Practical tips

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:

  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
  • Note how narrow the loft stairs are
  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. If anything is not right with the storage, use our contact form and we’ll talk it through.

Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. Keep the room ventilated. That keeps the storage and the paint in good order.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.
