Loft storage for homes in Canons Park
Behind an eaves door, there’s often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. We look at this during the design visit in Canons Park. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room and space under the eaves going to waste.
An interwar house typically has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, which can hold fitted storage for linen and spare bedding. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Canons Park, it’s worth looking up as well as down. Any boiler or hot water cylinder keeps the access and ventilation its maker asks for.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
- We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.
Before we arrive
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
Arranging a design visit
We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Doors and drawer fronts
Fronts are made from moisture-resistant MDF and painted to your colour. The angled fronts match the ceiling, keeping the lines neat.
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting suits angled panels and plain fronts alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.

Practical tips
New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. After that, a few simple habits help:
- Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
- Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. Leave the gaps we have designed in. It helps keep the loft in good order.
Every so often, look at the handles and hinges. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, get in touch through our contact form and describe it.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Making use of awkward spaces in Canons Park
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 54% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Canons Park, with about 21% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List records 19 entries within half a mile of the centre of Canons Park. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. About 54% of homes in the neighbourhood around Canons Park date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Loft conversions are common in houses of that age, and the eaves can take fitted storage.
The wider area includes historic houses like Headstone Manor, about 3 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. For an older house near Church of St Lawrence, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Lawrence, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

FAQs: loft storage in Canons Park
Is parking a problem for fitting in Canons Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Mill Hill Broadway station?
Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
How is loft storage priced?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. Hanging goes where there’s height, with shelves where it is low. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
