Loft storage in St George's Fields, Southwark

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make loft storage for homes in St George's Fields, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage

Loft storage for homes in St George's Fields

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself is not our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in St George's Fields, the design visit is the first step. Most enquiries start with low eaves that nobody can use and a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

A large number of homes around St George's Fields date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer developments. Where a boiler or cylinder sits in a cupboard, the design keeps the clearances its maker sets out. Cupboards can be shallow where space is tight.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Pricing loft storage in St George's Fields

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How big the furniture is

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.

What to send when you contact us

These details help when you contact us:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • What the furniture needs to hold

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the measuring visit. To get started, use our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Loft storage for homes in St George's Fields

In the streets around St George's Fields, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 43%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of St George's Fields, Historic England’s list includes Old Vic Theatre (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-west, and Church of St John (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling may need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. We will plan where the van can stop.

The wider area includes historic houses like Benjamin Franklin House, about 1.1 miles north-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. For families living near St George's Cathedral Catholic Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

St George's Fields is about 3 miles south of East Dulwich, within the London Borough of Southwark. St George's Fields is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Across Southwark, we cover St George's Fields, along with the rest of the borough.

Every address in SE1, SE11 and SE17 is covered for loft storage. You will find streets here such as York Road, Spur Road and Bear Lane, and we cover homes on all of them for loft storage. St George's Fields sits close to the A300 and A302, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. We also cover Elephant and Castle (1 mile south-east), Newington Butts (1 mile south-east), Vauxhall (1 mile south-west), Lambeth (1 mile south-west) and Westminster (1 mile west). We also make loft storage in nearby places such as East Dulwich (3 miles south), Herne Hill (3 miles south), Camberwell (2 miles south-east), Peckham (3 miles south-east), Rotherhithe (3 miles east) and Surrey Quays (3 miles east).

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so everything on the way in is covered before the sections arrive. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

Before fitting day

  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time

How to get a quote

To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Advice

Could you do it yourself?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Questions we are often asked

Can you make loft storage for a home in St George's Fields?

Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London, and St George's Fields is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in St George's Fields?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough measurements. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We’ll work out the layout when we visit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

What it is made from

Plinths and scribe strips

In a loft room, walls, slopes and floors are rarely straight. Scribe strips and a plinth take up the difference. The result is neat, even lines all round.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits angled panels and plain fronts alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.

Why people ask for loft storage in St George's Fields

Some people want to make more of a dormer. Shelves, a desk or a seat in the dormer make it useful. It adds storage without crowding the room.

Loft storage can help with:

  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room

Living in a block of flats near Elephant & Castle station? Then eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
