Loft storage in Elephant and Castle, Southwark

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Elephant and Castle starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • A boarded loft that is hard to keep organised
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished

Loft storage designed for your room

Loft storage in Elephant and Castle

A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. We shape wardrobes to the slope, putting hanging space at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it is low. It uses the full height of the room. The design visit in Elephant and Castle is where we work it out. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room and boxes and suitcases with no home.

Hallways in newer flats and houses are often short, with doors opening off every side, which leaves little wall for storage. Around Elephant and Castle, many homes were built since 2000, so that is worth planning for. A shallow cupboard can take coats, shoes and the vacuum cleaner without blocking a door.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

What happens on fitting day

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it’s useful to let us know during the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and discuss the design with you.
  3. A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

How to prepare

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish

Practical tips

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
  • Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
  • Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
  • Let us know about parking near your home

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the storage, drop us a line using the contact form and we will help.

Keep sharp or very heavy items away from the painted fronts. Store tools in a box, not loose against the doors. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.

FAQs: loft storage in Elephant and Castle

My home in Elephant and Castle is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Eaves cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Elephant & Castle station?

Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.

What it is made from

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters. It goes into the carcasses, the drawers and the shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.

Moisture-resistant MDF

In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It’s used for most of the visible parts.
