Pollards Hill Loft Storage

In Pollards Hill, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
  • Unused space in a dormer
  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom

Loft storage in Pollards Hill

About our loft storage in Pollards Hill

Each eaves cupboard is made in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, while MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it is carried up and fitted in your home in Pollards Hill. Most enquiries start with boxes and suitcases with no home and needing storage in a loft office, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

In a family house, the hall and stairs normally carry the most clutter. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around Pollards Hill, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Looking after your furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:

  • Note how narrow the loft stairs are
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
  • Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents
  • Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both

Small marks on a hand-painted finish can be touched in. Keep a note of the colour for later. Should you have a question about the storage, send us a few details through our contact form and we will help.

Keep the eaves ventilated and avoid pressing things against the back of the space. Insulation pressed flat does not do its job. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.

Is bespoke worth it?

Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall normally ends with a gap, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Common questions about loft storage

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Norbury station?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.

Is Pollards Hill in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes, Pollards Hill is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Croydon and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It is scribed to the slope and walls.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

How much does loft storage cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

How to get a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Loft storage for homes in Pollards Hill

In the streets around Pollards Hill, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Pollards Hill include Norbury Hall (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Pollards Hill (about 43%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage; we build storage once the loft is converted or boarded.

For an older house near St Oswald, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. For families living near Kensington Avenue Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Close to Grangewood Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

What affects the cost of loft storage

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • How square the room is
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The width and height of the space

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What we need to know

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • How you want to use the space
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you are ready, drop us a line using the contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
