Caring for painted furniture
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Check the route up to the loft
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
- Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. Leave the gaps we’ve designed in. It helps prevent damp behind the storage.
Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, drop us a line using the contact form and describe it.
Loft storage for homes in Parsons Green
Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. We measure the route along with the room itself, so every section made in our workshop fits up the stairs. It is part of the job for any loft room in Parsons Green. Typical reasons to get in touch are standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and a converted loft with no fitted furniture, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
A large share of the homes around Parsons Green were built before 1919, and houses of that age are full of awkward spaces: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. Fitted storage is designed to make those spaces useful, scribed to walls that are rarely straight.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What else we make in Parsons Green
Why bespoke in Parsons Green?
In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Ready-made pieces show the gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, which means a matching pair of ready-made units seldom fits both. Each side can be made to its own size.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

Parsons Green homes and loft storage
In the neighbourhood around Parsons Green, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 60%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Parsons Green, Historic England’s list includes Hurlingham House (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south, and Gasholder No 2 (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles north-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. A van working in Parsons Green will typically need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. We ask about parking during the design visit, so the van can be planned for.
Fulham Palace, about 0.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live in a period home close to St Dionis, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Living in a block of flats near Imperial Wharf station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

What it is made from
Spray-painted finish
For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. It’s applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be applied once the storage is in place. Marks can be touched in without much trouble. Like any new paint, it needs time to cure fully.
How fitting day works
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Ask for a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.
Questions we’re often asked
Do you make loft storage for homes in Parsons Green?
Yes, Parsons Green is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
My home in Parsons Green is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
How is loft storage priced?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We will design around them.
Will eaves storage block the ventilation?
Not if it’s planned with care. We design eaves storage so it does not block ventilation or squash insulation. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Typically not. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
