Loft storage in Walham Green
Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there is often space going to waste. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Pull-out drawers mean you don’t have to crawl in. At the design visit in Walham Green, we will see what fits. If your home has a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room and boxes piled on loft boards, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Around Walham Green, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and houses of that age are full of tricky spaces: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. That is where fitted storage comes in, scribed to walls that are rarely straight.
We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.
- First you tell us about the loft room and what you’d like to store there, and how you get up to it.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you.
- A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- The cupboards and drawers are made at our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls.
Before fitting day
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Starting with a design visit
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Is it time for loft storage?
Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
- A dormer that isn’t being used
- Low eaves that nobody can use
- A new loft conversion that needs storage
If your children go to Chelsea Independent College or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.
Choosing a carpenter
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- How the doors are hung and adjusted

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. Tell us about parking during the design visit.
Why us?
- Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
- Built around your room
- Every quote follows a design visit
- Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Loft storage in Walham Green: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 54% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Walham Green, with about 21% built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Walham Green include Sandford Manor House (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and Gasholder No 2 (Grade II*), less than half a mile east. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. Where a home in Walham Green is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
Living in a block of flats near Imperial Wharf station? Then the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. For an older house near Church of St John, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Practical tips
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
- Make a list of what you want to store in the eaves
When you load the drawers and cupboards, put heavy things low. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.
Keep sharp or very heavy items away from the painted fronts. Store tools in a box, not loose against the doors. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising during the design visit.
Common questions about loft storage
Is Walham Green in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. Walham Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hammersmith and Fulham and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you cover homes near Imperial Wharf station?
Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
What do eaves cupboards cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, get in touch through our contact form and we will arrange a design visit.
Does eaves storage affect the insulation?
Not when it is planned well. We look behind the knee wall at the measuring visit and plan the storage so air can still move. Insulation and ventilation work itself isn’t ours.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design.
