TV and media units for homes in Rise Park
Cables are the part most people want to hide. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with openings and removable panels so you can add or swap leads later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. People typically come to us about speakers muffled behind doors and equipment with nowhere proper to go, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
In an area like Rise Park, where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, many homes have had the front and back rooms knocked together. The result is often a long room with a chimney breast, a good spot for TV and media units. Cable routes for a TV or speakers, and space for set-top boxes, are planned at the measuring visit.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

FAQs: TV and media units in Rise Park
I live near Gidea Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Rise Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What if I buy a larger TV?
If you are likely to upgrade, we can leave room for it. Tell us the size you have in mind so the space and cable routes suit it.
Do you move sockets for a TV unit?
We do not do electrical work. Sockets and wiring are for your electrician. We share the layout so the sockets line up with the design.
Is there room for a soundbar?
We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closing speakers behind a door muffles them.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Screen sizes change, and a stand that suits today’s set may look small with the next. We can leave room for a larger screen, so the unit lasts longer. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
Why us?
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- Every quote follows a design visit
- Saturday work by arrangement
- Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight

Rise Park homes and TV and media units
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Rise Park were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 50%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 44%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Havering is inside it. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Rise Park. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Rise Park (about 44%) were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war rooms tend to be simple shapes, often without a chimney breast, so TV and media units often run along a full wall, with fixings chosen for the wall.
For families living near Rise Park Infant School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. If you live in a flat close to Gidea Park station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your home is one of the older houses near St James, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.

Materials and finishes
Birch plywood
For carcasses and drawer boxes, birch plywood is hard-wearing. Its layered edge can be painted or shown.
Shelves
Speakers and books suit open shelves.
Where other trades come in
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Connecting the TV signal or internet
- Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
- Configuring the TV and sound system
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitting day, step by step
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- To begin, message us from the contact page; a brief note on the TV wall and everything that plugs into it is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, note where the sockets are and plan how the cables will run. If you need new sockets, your electrician should do that before fitting.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, leaving routes for cables and gaps for air.
- The unit is fitted and scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish and the routes left clear.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
How to get a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
