TV and media units for your home in Rush Green

About our TV and media units in Rush Green

Hiding the cables is often the main aim. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. Typical reasons to get in touch are clutter around the TV and alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Around Rush Green, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. In a typical 1930s house, the front room has a bay at one end and a chimney breast with an alcove to either side, which decides where TV and media units sit. Walls are often truer than in older houses, but they’re still measured carefully and scribed where they wander.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the TV unit we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Common questions about TV and media units

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Romford station?

Yes, homes across Havering and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Rush Green?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

What happens at the design visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.

How do I get started?

Just get in touch through our contact form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few pictures, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It is something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Bespoke TV and media units or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf TV units come in a few set colours. We paint ours in the colour you choose, by spray or by hand. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.

What happens on fitting day

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and your equipment, including the size of the screen.
  2. We visit to measure the wall and talk through the design. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it helps to have them in mind early.
  3. We send a written quote for the unit.
  4. We make the cupboards, shelves and panels in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We install the unit, leaving the cable routes and vents clear. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.

Before we arrive

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Starting with a design visit

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

Advice

How we price TV and media units

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The width and height of the space
  • The number of doors and drawers

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What we need to know

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:

  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

For a quote for TV and media units in Rush Green, fill in our short enquiry form. Let us know the room and the rough idea. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

Many remote controls need a clear view of the box, so those spaces may be open rather than behind a door.

Plinths and scribe strips

The plinth raises the unit and hides a sloping floor. Its height can match the skirting board.

Built-in living-room furniture in Rush Green

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 45% of the housing in the streets around Rush Green, with about 24% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Rush Green include Church of St Andrew (Grade II), about 0.6 miles north. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Havering is inside it. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Rush Green, as it does anywhere else in London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.

If your children go to Rush Green Primary School or a school nearby, TV and media units can be planned with low cupboards for toys and higher shelves for everything else. If you live in a period home close to St Augustine of Canterbury Church, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. The wider area includes historic houses such as Hare Hall, about 2.1 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Rush Green is in the London Borough of Havering, about 1 mile north-east of Romford. Whether your home in Rush Green is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our work takes in places right across Havering.

Design visits and fitting in RM7, RM1 and RM12 work the same way as everywhere else we cover.
