Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Fitzrovia

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Fitzrovia

A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. If you are living with a use for a small spare room and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Fitzrovia, so bedroom space is often tight and every wall counts. Taking fitted furniture up to the ceiling adds storage without using more floor. The furniture is built in sections that fit the route into the flat, then put together in the room.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitzrovia homes and walk-in wardrobes

In the streets around Fitzrovia, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 38%) and the years since 2000 (about 21%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. 25 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Fitzrovia. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Purpose-built flats are more common around Fitzrovia than across Camden: about 80% of households, against about 56%, according to Census 2021. That puts the stairs, lifts and doors on the route in at the centre of the plan.

If you live in a flat close to London Euston station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. The wider area includes historic houses like Handel Hendrix House, about 0.8 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If your home is one of the older houses near Whitefield's Tabernacle, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Fitzrovia is in the London Borough of Camden, about 1 mile east of St Pancras. We cover Fitzrovia as part of our work across Camden. Across Camden, we cover Fitzrovia, along with the rest of the borough.

Here we cover the NW1W, W1T and W1G postcode area for walk-in wardrobes. Streets in the area include Euston Road, Duke's Road and Market Place, and we cover homes on all of them for walk-in wardrobes. Fitzrovia sits close to the A501 and A4200, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. Other places close to Fitzrovia include Euston (1 mile north-east), Marylebone (1 mile south-west), Bloomsbury (1 mile east), Somers Town (1 mile north-east) and Soho (1 mile south-east). Elsewhere in Camden, we also cover Hampstead (3 miles north-west), West Hampstead (3 miles north-west), Kentish Town (2 miles north), Greenhill (3 miles north-west), Chalk Farm (2 miles north) and Dartmouth Park (2 miles north).

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Modular units are made in fixed sizes, so the space above and at the ends is often wasted. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, which can add a lot of storage. Large ready-made pieces can be hard to get up the stairs or into the lift, whereas fitted furniture comes in sections made for the way in. It is then put together in the room.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. With little room to spare in a flat, pieces come in as they’re needed. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. The fixings suit each wall, whether solid or stud.

  1. You let us know about the room and what you want to store.
  2. We visit to measure up and go through the layout, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
  4. We build everything in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Ask for a quote

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Advice

What it costs

What you pay depends on:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Getting in touch

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will arrange a design visit.

What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:

  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Building a new partition wall

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can get in touch through our contact form and we will tell you. How it works.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Fitzrovia

Do you cover homes near London Euston station?

Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Fitzrovia?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?

Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

How are walk-in wardrobes priced?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The size of the room, the layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
