Walk-in Wardrobes in Hackney
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Hackney starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.
- Room for a growing wardrobe
- Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
- Room for two wardrobes in one space
Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Hackney
Good light helps you see colours and find things, and any new lights or wiring are for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind and agree the details when we measure. If you are living with proper shoe storage and a side each for a couple, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Spare rooms in flats typically have more than one job, and closed storage lets the room change role without clutter. Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Hackney. Doors and drawers are planned to open fully in the space you have.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.
- You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
- We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways. It helps to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The units are brought in, assembled and set level.
How to prepare
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Starting with a design visit
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Advice
What it costs
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- The number of doors and drawers
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Parking near your home
- How big the furniture is
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.
Getting in touch
To help us picture the room, please include:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Hackney
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Homerton station?
Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room.
My home in Hackney is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Walk-in wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?
It is your choice. Doors keep dust off and give a calm, finished look, while open rails and shelves let you see everything. Many people choose a mix.
Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?
Often, yes. A box room can take hanging, shelves and drawers on its walls, while leaving space to stand and turn. We’ll measure and plan it at the design visit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.
How are walk-in wardrobes priced?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, message us from the contact page.
What it’s made from
Birch plywood
Long shelves in a dressing room need to stay straight, and birch plywood suits them.
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors can be flat, framed or panelled and finish them to match. Some areas can be left open.
Bedrooms in Hackney: local notes
About 33% of the homes in the streets around Hackney went up before 1919, and about 24% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Hackney is in the Well Street Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Hackney fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
Close to Clapton Park? Walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. For an older house near Church of St Luke, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Living in a block of flats near Homerton station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Our area takes in the homes around The Urswick School, Cardinal Pole Catholic School and Chesham Arms and the streets around them. There is a railway station in Hackney itself: Homerton station. Is bespoke worth it?
Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, which suits some people well. A fitted walk-in wardrobe adds doors, drawers and shelves where you want them, painted to match the room. Ready-made furniture stops at a set height, whatever the ceiling, which wastes the space above. Built-in pieces use the full height.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
