About our walk-in wardrobes in London Fields
Ventilation matters in a room full of clothes, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Good ventilation helps avoid condensation and mould, and we design the units to allow for it. People usually come to us about storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe and a built-in dressing table, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
In a flat, a spare bedroom often doubles as a study or a guest room, so fitted furniture that keeps things out of sight helps it switch between them. Around London Fields, most households live in purpose-built flats. We plan the space in front so every door and drawer opens fully.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

Bedrooms in London Fields: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around London Fields were built before 1919 (about 34%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Within a mile of the centre of London Fields, 22 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. All of London, Hackney included, is inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in London Fields, as it does anywhere else in London. We go through parking and access at the design visit.
For a flat near London Fields station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For families living near Gayhurst Community School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else.
London Fields is part of the London Borough of Hackney, about 1 mile south-west of Shoreditch. From period terraces to newer flats in London Fields, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. We list London Fields among 20 places we cover in Hackney.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in London Fields
Do you cover homes near London Fields station?
Yes. We cover all of Hackney and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can I send photos ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
How long does fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Modular units are made in fixed sizes and rarely reach the ceiling. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, which can add a lot of storage. Ready-made units cannot follow the boxing and risers found in many flats, leaving gaps or blocking access. Built-in pieces are designed around them, with access kept.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Read how bespoke compares with ready-made and what to look for in a quote.
Is it time for walk-in wardrobes?
Sometimes a house changes and a room becomes spare. Many people choose to fit it out as a dressing room.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- A dressing area in part of a bedroom
- Long and double hanging planned around your clothes
- Turning a box room into a dressing room
- Separate space for two people’s clothes
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The New Lansdowne Club, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
What to check before you book
- How they handle walls that are not straight
- Will the quote be in writing?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Where they’ll park and unload
What it is made from
Hanging rails
We plan rails for full-length garments and for double hanging to suit your clothes.
Moisture-resistant MDF
Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well for a clean, even look.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Loading near a block of flats can take some planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
Several things affect the price:
- The internal fittings
- The width and height of the space
- Parking near your home
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside during the design visit.
What to send when you get in touch
Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
To get a quote, get in touch through our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a written quote follows.
