Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Millbank

Walk-in wardrobes in Millbank: what you get

With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted to the room, so it follows the walls and sits level. Typical reasons to get in touch are storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe and a walk-in wardrobe in a box room, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. That layout is worth knowing around Millbank, where a large share of homes were built before 1919. Fitted furniture can fill both recesses and bridge the chimney breast with high cupboards. Any capped chimney is kept ventilated.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

How it is made

Shelves

We plan shelving for knitwear, bags and things you use less often. Each shelf is sized for its load.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF stays flat and paints beautifully, in any colour you choose.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • The internal fittings
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The overall size of the piece

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Your postcode and the borough

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Starting with a design visit

To make a start, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Advice

Walk-in wardrobes in Millbank: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Millbank were built before 1919 (about 47%) and since 2000 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Millbank is in the Broadway and Christchurch Gardens Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your street in Millbank joins a main road, it is worth telling us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If your home is one of the older houses near Christ Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like London Underground Headquarters, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Clarence House, about 0.4 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Millbank is about 1 mile north-west of City of Westminster, part of the City of Westminster. Design visits and fitting in Millbank can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Millbank is one of the places in Westminster where we make walk-in wardrobes.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

I live near London Victoria station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Millbank?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It is made in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route as well as the room.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on.

What we don’t do

Not everything around walk-in wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Structural changes or removing walls
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • Curing damp in the walls

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Why bespoke in Millbank?

Modular units are made in fixed sizes and rarely reach the ceiling. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, so very little space goes to waste. Off-the-shelf furniture is made for flat walls and level floors, which older houses rarely have, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Why us?

  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • A design visit, then a quote in writing
