Walk-in wardrobes in Westminster

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Westminster

A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, so it follows the walls and sits level. If your home has room for two wardrobes in one space and setting aside a corner of a large bedroom, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Floors in older houses often slope, which matters around Westminster, as a large share of homes there date from before 1919. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so the doors line up and the gaps run straight. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Tips worth knowing

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Count your shoes before the design visit
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Measure how much long hanging you need
  • Leave room for air behind hanging clothes

Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners.

Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. We plan the layout around your clothes, so it is worth having a sort-out first.

What it is made from

Spray-painted finish

You choose the colour, and we apply it in the workshop.

Hanging rails

Full-length hanging suits coats and long garments, with double hanging elsewhere.

Questions we are often asked

Do you cover homes near London Victoria station?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

I live in a flat in Westminster. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Walk-in wardrobes are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

How long does fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the design visit.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

Is ventilation important in a dressing room?

Yes. Air needs to circulate around stored clothes, especially on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

Can a walk-in wardrobe be part of a bedroom?

Yes, if there is enough space. A section of the room can become a dressing area, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

Flats, leases and landlords

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

What affects the price in Westminster

The price for your room depends on:

  • The internal fittings
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The number of doors and drawers

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

What we need to know

You do not need exact measurements or a plan. It is enough to send:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Approximate measurements of the space

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and what you want to store.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you, with shoe storage and a dressing table if you’d like them.
  3. You get a written quote for the design we have agreed.
  4. We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Preparing the room

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

Starting with a design visit

To get a quote, message us from the contact page and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

Advice

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Westminster

Homes built before 1919 make up about 47% of the housing in the area around Westminster, with about 25% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 33 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Westminster. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. More than a third of the homes in the area around Westminster (about 47%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. A small spare room in an older house can make a good dressing room, with storage scribed to walls that wander.

For a flat near London Victoria station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Near listed buildings like London Underground Headquarters, under half a mile west of the centre of Westminster, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live near St James's Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.
