Where other trades come in

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:

  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitted wardrobes in Parsons Green

Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. The layout is planned so the room doesn’t feel boxed in. If your home has condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes, fitted wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. If your home is one of the many around Parsons Green built before 1919, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Caring for painted furniture

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • List the things that won’t hang, such as jumpers and shoes
  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
  • Tell us about the lift and stairs in your block
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open

New paintwork is dry to the touch long before it has fully cured. For the first while, open and close the doors gently.

Make sure vents at the top or bottom of the wardrobe are not blocked, particularly where the wardrobe meets an outside wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and have the cause looked at early.

What happens on fitting day

You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

  1. You contact us about fitted wardrobes.
  2. We come to measure and go through the design, including the doors and the finish.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

How to prepare

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Ask for a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you contact us.

Do you need fitted wardrobes in Parsons Green?

Sometimes it’s a change in how a room is used. Fitted wardrobes give it proper storage while leaving space to move. Adjustable shelves let the inside change over time.

Fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes

If you live in a period home close to St Dionis, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Parsons Green?

It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Parsons Green?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

Floors in older houses are often out of level. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Do you work outside London?

No. We work in London and nowhere else.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
