White City Window Seats
We make window seats in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood for homes in White City. The finish is spray painted or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you.
- A radiator under the window getting in the way
- Toys spread across a bedroom floor
- No comfortable place to sit in the light
Need window seats in White City?
Is bespoke worth it?
We scribe each seat to follow the walls and floor, so it fits neatly at the walls and floor. A bench simply sits in front of the window. The difference is most noticeable in a period room. Gaps behind, beside and above ready-made furniture collect dust, and fitted furniture closes them, which makes cleaning simpler.
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How we make window seats for White City
Each window seat is made at our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the seat its strength, as it’s strong and holds screws firmly, and MDF gives the fronts and panels a smooth surface for paint. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in White City. If your home has a room with shutters and sashes that deserves a proper seat and needing more storage in the room, that is what window seats are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Wherever your home in White City sits in London’s mix of housing, there is typically a space that could work harder. Fitted storage can make it useful, with drawers, shelves, hanging or a seat depending on the space. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

How fitting day works
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls, with scribing where they wander and packing where floors dip. Hand painting can happen on site, while spray-painted pieces come ready from the workshop.
- You get in touch and tell us about the window and the room.
- We come to measure and plan the seat, the storage and any radiator grille with you.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
- We make the seat, the lids or drawers and any grille in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and the floor.
Before we arrive
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
How to get a quote

Questions we are often asked
Does a conservation area in or near White City affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you cover homes near Shepherds Bush station?
Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.
Can you build a window seat over a radiator?
Yes. Many windows have a radiator beneath, and we design the seat around it. A grille in the front lets the heat into the room. Storage above a radiator stays warm, so it suits things that don’t mind that.
What does a bespoke window seat cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. It depends on the size and shape of the window, the storage you want and the finish. To get a quote, message us from the contact page and we will arrange a design visit.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
What we do not do
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Seat cushions, which you source separately
- Moving or replacing a radiator, which is for your plumber
- Electrical work around the seat
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

White City homes and window seats
In the neighbourhood around White City, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. The National Heritage List records 13 entries within half a mile of the centre of White City. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in White City. We go through parking and access during the design visit.
Near listed buildings like Building Adjoining to West of Harrow Club, less than half a mile east of the centre of White City, older homes may keep original joinery that window seats can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. The wider area includes historic houses like Leighton House, about 1.3 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a radiator under the window just needs a grille in the seat front. If you live in a flat close to Shepherds Bush station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Flats, leases and landlords
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the design visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you contact us.
