Questions from Battersea
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Battersea?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you make wall beds for a home in Battersea?
Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London, and Battersea is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
How much room do I need in front of a wall bed?
It depends on the bed size and the mechanism. We measure up and make sure the bed has room to fold down.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so there are no gaps at the sides.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.
Wall beds in Battersea
Our wall beds are made for homes in Battersea and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Most enquiries start with a guest room that sits empty most of the time and a hobby room with a bed for guests, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Around Battersea, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted furniture can fill the alcoves, wrap round the chimney breast or run across a whole wall. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Fitting day, step by step
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that is your finish, can follow the fitting.
- First, you let us know about the space. Mention who the bed is for.
- We visit, measure and discuss the bed, shelves and desk. What the wall is made of matters, as the bed has to be fixed securely.
- You receive a written quote, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wall bed is fitted in your home.
Preparing the room
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Let us know about parking near your home

Flats, conversions and lettings
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

Bedroom storage in Battersea
Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Battersea, with about 20% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 12 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Battersea. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. For fitting in Battersea, a van usually needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.
For an older house near Clapham Welsh Presbyterian Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mark, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Bed mechanism housing
The bed sits inside a cabinet built around its mechanism and fix it as the maker specifies. When the bed is up, the front looks like cupboard doors.
