The problems wall beds solve

Some people are tired of sofa beds. A wall bed takes a proper mattress, chosen to suit its mechanism, and the bed sits flat on its frame.

Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:

  • A studio that works by day and night
  • Storage built around a fold-down bed
  • Hiding the bed when it’s not in use
  • Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep

Close to Preston Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.

How we make wall beds for Wembley

Many spare rooms are only just big enough for a bed, and the bed fills the room even when no one is staying. When the bed is folded away, the room is open again, ready for work, exercise or play. When guests come, the bed folds down. Typical reasons to get in touch are a home office that also sleeps guests and a living room with a bed that folds away, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Many homes around Wembley were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are compact flats in newer blocks. Small rooms suit fitted furniture that uses the full height and the tricky corners. Boxing for pipes and risers is designed around rather than left as dead space.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Wembley homes and wall beds

In the neighbourhood around Wembley, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 53%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 30%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Wembley is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. More than half of the homes in the area around Wembley (about 53%) were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs.

If your children go to Wembley Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live in a flat close to North Wembley station, wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Where other trades come in

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Supplying mattresses
  • Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

Why bespoke in Wembley?

Ready-made wall bed units are available and typically cost less, and they can work in a simple space. They come in set sizes and finishes, so they may not suit uneven walls, low ceilings or alcoves. A bespoke cabinet is built for the room. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often does not get them. Built-in pieces are designed with the right fixings from the start, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Why us?

  • A spray or hand-painted finish
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls

Pricing wall beds in Wembley

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How square the room is

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, use our contact form.

Helping us understand the room

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, use our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

FAQs: wall beds in Wembley

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Wembley?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

My home in Wembley is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Is it possible to add a desk beside the wall bed?

Yes. We often design the bed as part of a wider storage wall with shelves or a desk beside it. We plan it so the bed still has room to come down.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Will a wall bed work on my wall?

That’s something we look at when we measure. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard all need different fixings, and the mechanism maker sets out what’s required.

Are fold-down beds safe to use?

Wall beds are made for regular use when fixed and used as its maker specifies. We fix the mechanism securely to a sound wall or floor, and the maker’s guidance on use should always be followed.

From workshop to your room

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Newer blocks often have concierge desks, entry systems and rules on lift booking, so it is useful to sort them out beforehand. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.

  1. First, you tell us about the room and how you’d like it to work. A desk or shelving around the bed can be part of it.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room, look at the wall and talk through the design. We also check there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
  3. We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets are made at our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
