Grange Park Wall Beds
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on wall beds in Grange Park starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.
- A real mattress for visitors
- Room for a desk and a guest bed
- Storage built around a fold-down bed
Need wall beds in Grange Park?
Wall beds for homes in Grange Park
You need room in front of the cabinet to lower the bed, so we plan the layout with that in mind. Furniture in front of the bed has to be easy to move or kept out of the way when the bed is down. Most enquiries start with a bed that fills a little-used room and a living room with a bed that folds away, and the answer is built in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Grange Park, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. That’s where wall beds earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

From workshop to your room
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually simple, though we still measure the route in as well as the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it’s going.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinet, the materials and the finish.
- We build the cabinet in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinet goes in, the mechanism is fixed securely and the bed is tried out.
- We go through the bed with you; the cabinet has the spray-painted or hand-painted finish you chose.
Before fitting day
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you are ready, message us from the contact page. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Advice
Bedrooms in Grange Park: local notes
About 34% of the homes in the streets around Grange Park went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 27% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Grange Park is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 34% of homes in the streets around Grange Park date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.
For a family home near Grange Park Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. Forty Hall, about 2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. For an older house near Church of St Mary Magdalene, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice.

Questions we’re often asked
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Grange Park?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Can you make wall beds for a home in Grange Park?
Yes. Grange Park is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Enfield and London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?
That is something we look at when we measure. Different walls need different fixings, and the mechanism maker’s instructions set what’s needed.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
What wall beds can’t fix
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:
- Choosing a mattress for you
- Strengthening or rebuilding a wall
- Decorating around the cabinet
Not sure whether your space suits wall beds? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, for these reasons:
- The overall size of the piece
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
