Walworth Wall Beds
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on wall beds in Walworth starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.
- A studio that works by day and night
- A bed that fills a little-used room
- A storage wall with a bed inside
Wall beds in Walworth
Why people ask for wall beds in Walworth
Plenty of spare rooms have become home offices. People want a desk by day and a bed for visitors, and a fold-down bed lets it do both.
We’re often asked to help with:
- A study that doubles as a spare room
- Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep
- A guest room that sits empty most of the time
- A hobby room with a bed for guests
Close to Nursery Row Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.
What to check before you book
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- A written quote that sets out the job
About our wall beds in Walworth
Our wall beds are made for homes in Walworth and all over London. First comes a design visit, where we measure and look at the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are storage built around a fold-down bed and a hobby room with a bed for guests.
Most homes around Walworth are purpose-built flats, whether in mansion blocks or newer developments. In a mansion block, bedrooms often keep their chimney breasts and tall ceilings, while modern flats tend to have plasterboard partitions. The fixings are chosen for whichever wall you have.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the wall bed designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Walworth homes and wall beds
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Walworth were built since 2000 (about 33%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 27%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Walworth, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Peter (Grade I), under half a mile south, and English Martyrs School (part) (Grade II), less than half a mile east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. So a van fitting furniture in Walworth typically needs a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council. Parking is worth mentioning at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
For an older house near Lady Margaret Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. Mansion House, about 1.6 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.
Walworth is part of the London Borough of Southwark, about 2 miles south of East Dulwich. Design visits and fitting in Walworth can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Our work takes in places right across Southwark, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
Every address in SE1P, SE17 and SE1 is within our area for wall beds, from the main roads to the quieter streets. Whether you live on a street like Mina Road, Ash Avenue and Angel Lane or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for wall beds. Neighbouring places we cover for wall beds include Bermondsey (1 mile north-east), Camberwell (1 mile south), South Bermondsey (1 mile east), Denmark Hill (2 miles south) and Surrey Canal (2 miles east). We also make wall beds in nearby places like East Dulwich (2 miles south), Herne Hill (2 miles south), Peckham (2 miles south-east), Rotherhithe (2 miles east), Surrey Quays (2 miles east) and Nunhead (3 miles south-east).
Near you in Walworth
Our area takes in the homes around Lord Nelson pub, Lambeth Palace Library and University Academy of Engineering South Bank and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Elephant & Castle station, about 0.5 miles north-west of the centre. Other landmarks nearby include Tower of London (1.4 miles north-east) and The Walworth Clinic (close by, under half a mile west). Not far away are Tower Hill and Bellenden Road Nature Garden.
What affects the price in Walworth
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- The overall size of the piece
- Parking near your home
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It’s useful to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.
Before the design visit
A little information at the start saves time later. Where you can, include:
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Examples of the look you are after
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

FAQs: wall beds in Walworth
I live near Elephant & Castle station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Southwark and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Walworth?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
It’s something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
Is it possible to add a desk beside the wall bed?
Yes, that is a common request. Shelves and cupboards around the bed make the most of the space, and any new sockets are for your electrician.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Sofa beds cost less and need no fixing, which suits some homes. With a wall bed you get a proper bed and an empty floor by day, which can make a small room usable. Standard furniture does not allow for boxed-in pipes, risers or meter cupboards, leaving gaps or blocking access. Built-in pieces are designed around them, with access kept.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Where there’s no lift, each section is sized to be carried up the stairs safely. The tightest landing sets the largest piece. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed.
- To begin, use our contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
- At the design visit we check what the wall is made of, as a wall bed has to be fixed securely as its maker specifies.
- You receive a quote in writing for the wall bed and any storage.
- We build the cabinet in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinet goes in, the mechanism is fixed securely and the bed is tried out.
- Before we leave we show you how to lower and lift the bed.
Before we arrive
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Ask for a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
