How fitting day works
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing, ideally before fitting day.
- You contact us about a wall bed for a spare room or studio.
- At the design visit we plan the bed cabinet and check the stairs, landings and any lift. Mention parking as well, since vans often need a permit or a paid bay.
- We send a quote in writing.
- In our workshop we build the bed cabinet in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cabinet is joined in the room, fixed securely and set level.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Wall beds for homes in Surrey Quays
You need room in front of the cabinet to lower the bed, so we plan the layout with that in mind. Furniture in front of the bed has to be easy to move or kept out of the way when the bed is down. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a playroom that can sleep visitors and a storage wall with a bed inside.
A large share of the homes around Surrey Quays date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes rarely have enough built-in storage for a bedroom. Wall beds can be designed around the window, the radiator and the door swing, so the room still works. Where the flat is in a managed block, check the rules on deliveries and lifts before fitting day.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Bespoke wall beds or ready-made?
Sofa beds cost less and need no fixing, which suits some homes. A wall bed takes a proper mattress and gives back the floor, which can make a small room usable. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, whereas fitted pieces can be as shallow as the space needs. It still uses the full height.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, then set it out in the quote.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
What we don’t do
We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. Please bear these in mind too:
- Supplying mattresses
- Plastering or decorating the room
- Getting consent under your lease

Questions from Surrey Quays
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Surrey Quays?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Is Surrey Quays in the area you cover for wall beds?
Yes, Surrey Quays is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Southwark and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.
How long will the wall bed take to fit?
Every room is different. How long fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Boards, parts and paint
