Common questions about wall beds
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in White City?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Shepherds Bush station?
Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
Wall beds in White City: what you get
Many people now work from home in a room that also has to sleep guests. A wall bed with a desk or shelves beside it lets the room do both, so the bed does not dominate the working day. Cable routes for the desk can be planned in, while new sockets are for your electrician. We make wall beds from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a storage wall with a bed inside and more floor space in a studio flat.
Fitted furniture in a bedroom has to work with how you use the room. In White City, as anywhere in London, we start by asking what the room is for. The layout, the doors and the inside follow from that. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted, in a colour agreed with you.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Bespoke wall beds or ready-made?
A normal bed has nothing to fix to the wall, and that has its appeal. But if the room has other jobs to do, a wall bed lets it do them every day. Ready-made pieces come with a fixed inside layout, which may not suit what you need to store. With fitted furniture, the inside is planned around what you keep.
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What happens on fitting day
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- We start with what the room is for, day and night.
- We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to. We also check there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
- A written quote follows, covering the cabinet, the storage and the finish, for you to look over.
- We build and finish the bed housing and storage in our workshop.
- The bed and cabinets are fitted in your home and the mechanism fixed securely.
How to prepare
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
How to get a quote
It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough measurements. To share them, use our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Advice
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Shelves beside a wall bed often carry books, and birch plywood helps them resist sagging.
Hand-painted finish
Some people like the softer look of a hand-painted finish in a period room.
Honest limits
Some parts of a job need another trade, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Making good the walls after other work
- Strengthening or rebuilding a wall
- New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)
Not sure whether your space suits wall beds? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Bedrooms in White City: local notes
In the neighbourhood around White City, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 43%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 8 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of White City. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. Where a home in White City is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
Near listed buildings like Building Adjoining to West of Harrow Club, less than half a mile east of the centre of White City, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. If your home is one of the older houses near St Michael and St George, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. Leighton House, about 1.3 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.

Flats, leases and landlords
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so let us know about it at the measuring visit.
