Window seats for your home in Manor Park
How we make window seats for Manor Park
We make each window seat in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits a seat that takes weight every day, while MDF takes paint well for the fronts and panels. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Manor Park. If your home has standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay and wanting a seat without blocking the radiator, window seats made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
Original features like shutters, cupboard doors and panelling are worth keeping where they survive. Around Manor Park, where homes from before 1919 make up a large share, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Door styles can be chosen to suit the age of the house. If your home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original joinery.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

FAQs: window seats in Manor Park
Do you cover homes near Manor Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Do you make window seats for homes in Manor Park?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Manor Park is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
How much does a window seat cost?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. It depends on the size and shape of the window, the storage you want and the finish. To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll arrange a design visit.
What materials do you use for window seats?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Next to a window, the moisture-resistant grade is a sensible choice. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
Tips worth knowing
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Let us know about the radiator before we visit
- Think about what you’ll store under the seat
- Decide if the seat is part of a larger piece
- Decide on cushion thickness before the design visit
Wiping the seat with a soft, damp cloth is normally all it needs. Dry it afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. The front edge of the seat is touched most, so give it a wipe now and then.
Every so often, look at the hinges and any handles. A loose screw is easy to tighten before it works loose. If something stops working smoothly, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us.

Storage in Manor Park homes: local notes
In the streets around Manor Park, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 58%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 15%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Manor Park include Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade I), under half a mile south-east, and Public Library (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Manor Park joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an tricky room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
From workshop to your room
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the bay or recess and what goes under the seat, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

Related advice
Is bespoke worth it?
We scribe each seat to follow the walls and floor, so it fits neatly at the walls and floor. A bench simply sits in front of the window. In an older room, the difference shows. Ready-made tall pieces have to be fixed to the wall for safety, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Honest limits

- Repairs to sash windows, cills or shutters
- Moving or replacing a radiator, which is for your plumber
- New sockets or lights near the window, which are for your electrician
