Bespoke kitchens for homes in Belgravia
Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Walls lean, corners aren’t square and floors slope, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. If you are living with a kitchen that fits an uneven room and cabinets built around the appliances you choose, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
In a house built before 1919, a wall that looks solid may be lath and plaster. Since a large share of homes around Belgravia are that old, each wall is checked before deciding where heavy cabinets go. If a wall cannot take wall cabinets, tall larders or a dresser standing on the floor can do the job.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- Parking near your home
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Before the design visit
Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A written quote follows the visit. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.
Kitchens in Belgravia homes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 60% of the housing in the streets around Belgravia, with about 14% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. 21 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Belgravia. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Parking on many inner London streets is controlled, with zones run by each borough. A van working in Belgravia will normally need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Close to Green Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Near listed buildings like Church of Holy Trinity, less than half a mile south of the centre of Belgravia, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Belgravia is about 1 mile north of City of Westminster, part of the City of Westminster. We design and make bespoke kitchens for homes in Belgravia and across Westminster, as part of our work in every London borough. We cover places right across Westminster, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.
In SW3, SW1X and SW1W, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. We cover homes on streets like Hans Road, Eaton Lane and Gerald Road, along with the roads around them, for bespoke kitchens and any of our other fitted furniture. Belgravia sits close to the A3214 and A3217. Nearby, we also make bespoke kitchens in Brompton (1 mile south-west), Victoria (1 mile south-east), Chelsea (1 mile south-west), Pimlico (1 mile south-east) and Westminster (1 mile east). Across the rest of Westminster, our area takes in Covent Garden (2 miles north-east), Aldwych (2 miles north-east), Adelphi (2 miles north-east), Paddington Green (2 miles north-west), Paddington (2 miles north-west) and Lisson Grove (2 miles north).
Local landmarks in Belgravia
We fit furniture in homes around Star Tavern, Saint Thomas More Language College and Inchbald School of Design. The closest station to Belgravia is London Victoria station, roughly 0.5 miles south-east of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Health Exhibition Centre (close by, under half a mile south-east) and London Lock Hospital (less than half a mile north-east). Open spaces near Belgravia include Serpentine.
Honest limits
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Structural changes to the room
- Plastering, tiling or decorating
- Wiring for appliances and lights

Questions we are often asked
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Belgravia?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.
I live near London Victoria station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
What are your kitchens made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours you choose.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?
Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, to give a level line for the worktop. It is one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.
Which worktops and appliances can I have?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
From workshop to your room
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we will have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.

Getting a quote
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.
Advice
Is it time for bespoke kitchens?
Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. A painted kitchen with a dresser can feel at home in an older room and suit the house’s character.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- A dresser that suits a period house
- More storage in a small kitchen
- A kitchen island with room around it
- A kitchen finished in your colours
The wider area includes historic houses such as Apsley House, about 0.4 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.
What to check before you book
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made cabinets often have chipboard carcasses. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, finished to suit the room. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so off-the-shelf pieces either don’t fit or leave a gap either side. Furniture made for the space fills it.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote.
