Flats, blocks and rented homes

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Bespoke kitchens in Millbank

A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. We make dressers to fit the wall they stand against, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a kitchen island with room around it and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square.

A large share of the homes around Millbank were built before 1919, and in many Victorian and Edwardian terraces the kitchen sits in a narrow back addition. Cabinets are scribed to walls that wander and levelled on floors that slope. The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose.

We write quotes in plain English. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Millbank

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Millbank?

Yes. Millbank is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Westminster and London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.

My home in Millbank is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Every kitchen is different, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics?

No, that work is for other trades. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician, and we fit the cabinets.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Before and after fitting day

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Share the layout with your other trades
  • Deal with damp walls first
  • Choose your appliances before the design is final
  • Think about how you cook and what you store

Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time isn’t good for any finish. Good ventilation helps paintwork last.

Measure the route into the kitchen along with the room itself. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so tell us about tight turns or small lifts.

From workshop to your room

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it’s useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register handle the services.

Before fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Advice

Kitchens in Millbank: local notes

About 47% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Millbank went up before 1919, and about 25% since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Millbank include London Underground Headquarters (Grade I), less than half a mile west, and Bluecoat School (national Trust) (Grade I), under half a mile south-west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. That usually means a van in Millbank needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.

For families living near Harris Westminster Sixth Form, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. For a flat near London Victoria station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. If you live near St James's Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

What bespoke kitchens can’t fix

Before you plan the job, it is useful to know what we don’t do:

  • Connecting a gas hob or cooker
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Painting the walls around the kitchen

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
