Bespoke kitchens in Heron Quays
A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken at the design visit, so there are no filler panels covering awkward gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you, and the kitchen is built in our workshop before it is fitted. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are an island where space allows and a painted kitchen in a colour you choose.
A large number of homes around Heron Quays date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes usually have open-plan kitchens. A bespoke kitchen can be planned to sit well in that space, with an island where there’s room. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or use fixings made for the board.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we’ve designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Where other trades come in
Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we don’t do:
- Painting the walls around the kitchen
- New sockets or circuits
- Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s quick to buy.
Made-to-measure kitchens in Heron Quays
Homes built since 2000 make up about 68% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Heron Quays, with about 16% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Heron Quays, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Matthias (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north-east, and Fitch and Sons Works (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. For fitting in Heron Quays, a van usually needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Peter's Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Queen's House, about 1.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. Living in a block of flats near Canary Wharf station? Then kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

A plinth hides adjustable feet and lets the cabinets sit level. Scribe strips follow the wall.

Before and after fitting day
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Talk to your other trades in good time
- Check there’s room around an island before planning one
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Mention any parking or lift rules
Follow the appliance makers’ guidance for your oven, hob and dishwasher, and the care advice for your worktop.
Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on a colder external wall.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Do you cover homes near Canary Wharf station?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
I live in a flat in Heron Quays. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?
Yes. We scribe each cabinet to the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth, to give a level line for the worktop. That’s a big part of why bespoke suits period homes.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. Knowing their sizes early helps, and the quote confirms what’s included.
How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing.
- We start with how you use the kitchen and what isn’t working.
- At the design visit we measure the room and discuss the layout, storage and finish.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas.
Before fitting day
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
How to get a quote
It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
