What happens on fitting day

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it is useful to let us know at the measuring visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You send us a few details about the room and the storage you need, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. We visit to measure the room and discuss the design.
  3. We send a quote in writing for the wardrobes, so you can see what’s included.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

Before we arrive

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Getting a quote

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Heron Quays

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a bedroom that never feels tidy and not enough hanging space.

A large number of homes around Heron Quays date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats with compact bedrooms. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxing for pipes and risers is designed around rather than left as dead space.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

What it costs

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Helping us understand the room

Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

When is bespoke worth it?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Heron Quays

About 68% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Heron Quays went up since 2000, and about 16% between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 31 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Heron Quays. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. In inner London, a large part of the street parking sits inside borough-run controlled parking zones. So a van fitting furniture in Heron Quays normally needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension arranged through the council. We ask about parking at the measuring visit, so the van can be planned for.

Living in a block of flats near Canary Wharf station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For a family home near Seven Mills Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

Is bespoke worth it?

Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there is nowhere for dust to collect on top. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Heron Quays

A spare room turning into a guest room or a child’s room is another reason. Fitted wardrobes give it proper storage while leaving space to move. Inside, the layout can change as needs change.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Mismatched bedroom furniture
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall

Close to Sir John McDougall Gardens? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.

Questions from Heron Quays

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Heron Quays?

Yes, Heron Quays is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We talk through both at the measuring visit.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

How do I get a quote?

It is easiest to use our contact form and tell us about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Can you build wardrobes around a bed?

Yes. Building around the bed uses a wall that often goes unused and can include bedside shelves. The bed size and room are measured when we visit.
