North Finchley Bespoke Kitchens

We make bespoke kitchens for homes in North Finchley, designed around the room you have. We design your kitchen at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A layout for a small or awkward room
  • A larder for food and small appliances
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen

Practical tips

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Share the layout with your other trades
  • Know your appliance sizes early
  • Think about how the cabinets will get in

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth. It’s worth keeping a record of the colours used.

Measure the route into the kitchen not just the room. We make the cabinets in sections that fit through the doors and up the stairs, so tell us about tight turns or small lifts.

We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. Typical reasons to get in touch are a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and open shelves with cupboards below, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Moving a sink or cooker means moving pipes and cables, which is a job for other trades. Whatever kind of home you have in North Finchley, we plan the layout with that in mind. Any changes to plumbing, electrics or gas are for your plumber, electrician or a Gas Safe engineer.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You let us know about the room and how you use it. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register handle the services.

How to prepare

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Tell us about parking near your home

Arranging a design visit

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking near your home
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Getting in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in North Finchley

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in North Finchley?

Yes, North Finchley is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Barnet and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

I live near New Southgate station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Can you fit a kitchen in a room with uneven walls?

Yes, it is something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in North Finchley?

Older kitchens often lack storage. A larder or tall units can change how much you can store than a row of standard wall units.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • Tall larder storage
  • A kitchen finished in your colours
  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls

For families living near Sacks Morasha Jewish Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.

Before you choose who makes it

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
