Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
What happens on fitting day
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.
- You get in touch and describe the room.
- We visit to plan the room and measure the way in, including stairs, landings and doorways.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls. The finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Before fitting day
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

Advice
Walk-in wardrobes in Isle of Dogs
Many London homes have a small room that’s awkward as a bedroom. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. The layout leaves room to move and to see what you have. If you are living with moving wardrobes out of the bedroom and proper shoe storage, walk-in wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.
A large share of the homes around Isle of Dogs date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes rarely have enough built-in storage for a bedroom. We design walk-in wardrobes around the window, the radiator and the door. Where the flat is in a managed block, check the rules on deliveries and lifts before fitting day.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Walk-in wardrobes in Isle of Dogs: local notes
In the streets around Isle of Dogs, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 52%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 24%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Isle of Dogs, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Nicholas (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south, and Charnel House to Church of St Nicholas (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Isle of Dogs is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If your children go to Harbinger Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Mudchute Park and Farm, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. The wider area includes historic houses like Queen's House, about 0.8 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Isle of Dogs
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Greenwich station?
Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, while any new walls are for your builder.
Is a box room big enough for a walk-in wardrobe?
In many homes, yes. A box room can take hanging, shelves and drawers on its walls, while leaving space to stand and turn. We check the room during the design visit.
Caring for painted furniture
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Think about whether you want doors
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Keep the room ventilated
Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners.
It is useful to know what you will keep before we measure. We plan the layout around your clothes, so it’s worth having a sort-out first.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The internal fittings
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How big the furniture is
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
