Fitted wardrobes for homes in Kingsland
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. Hinged doors open a whole section at once, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. We weigh them up with you at the design visit. If your home has wardrobes that are full to bursting and clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Purpose-built flats are home to most households around Kingsland, and blocks often have rules on lift booking, deliveries and working hours. Checking with the building’s managing agent early keeps the day running smoothly. If your flat is leasehold, your lease may also need checking before fitted wardrobes are fixed to the walls.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

What prompts fitted wardrobes in Kingsland
Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in tricky spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. We shape fitted wardrobes around those features.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- Space under the eaves going to waste
For a family home near Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
What to check before you book
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- How they handle walls that are not straight
How fitting day works
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Drilling can be heard through the walls and floors of a block, and many buildings limit noisy work to certain hours. We plan the day to suit those rules. Saturdays can be arranged if your building allows work then.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.
Before we arrive
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
How to get a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
Advice
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
What fitted wardrobes can’t fix
It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Building work to create a loft room
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
Materials and parts
- Birch plywood
- Hinged or sliding doors
- Hand-painted finish
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
Kingsland homes and fitted wardrobes
In the area around Kingsland, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 37%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Kingsland is in the Kingsland Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to Kingsland fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Access and parking are talked through at the design visit.
Close to Shoreditch Park? Fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Near listed buildings like Church of St Matthias, about 0.5 miles north of the centre of Kingsland, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Kingsland is within the London Borough of Hackney, about 1 mile south of Shoreditch. Anywhere in Kingsland, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Kingsland is one of the places in Hackney where we make fitted wardrobes.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
I live in a flat in Kingsland. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Kingsland?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Kingsland?
It is easiest to send us a few details through our contact form. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how awkward the walls are all play a part. You’ll get a written quote once we’ve measured up.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
