Fitted wardrobes for homes in Lea Bridge

Doors can be hinged or sliding. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. People usually come to us about dusty space on top of the wardrobe and a bedroom that never feels tidy; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of the homes around Lea Bridge date from then. That height can be used, with fitted furniture taken up to the cornice and top cupboards for occasional things. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around, so the furniture suits the house.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture is made for flat walls and level floors, which older houses rarely have, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that do not meet the skirting. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

From workshop to your room

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized to get through. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Lea Bridge?

Yes. Lea Bridge is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hackney and London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Does a conservation area in or near Lea Bridge affect fitted furniture?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Lea Bridge?

Simply tell us about the room on our contact form. Rough sizes and a few photos help, and we’ll arrange a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. We send a quote in writing after the design visit.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

What prompts fitted wardrobes in Lea Bridge

After a loft conversion, the new bedroom typically needs storage that suits the slopes. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste.

People normally get in touch with us about things like these:

  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

If you live in a flat close to Clapton station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

What to check before you book

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Will the quote be in writing?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

How it is made

Hanging rails

Long rails need support so they don’t bend under heavy coats when it carries winter coats. Rail lengths are planned so they stay straight.

Birch plywood

Birch plywood is stiff and grips screws firmly, so it is a good choice for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes. You can paint the edge or leave the layers showing.

Pricing fitted wardrobes in Lea Bridge

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

What we need to know

Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:

  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

To get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Lea Bridge, fill in our short enquiry form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, with sizes if you have them. Next comes a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.
