Pentonville Fitted Wardrobes

In Pentonville, we design fitted wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • No space in front for doors to swing
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

What affects the price in Pentonville

The price for your room depends on:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.

What we need to know

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • How you want to use the space

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

About our fitted wardrobes in Pentonville

Wardrobes can be built around a bed, with tall cupboards either side and storage bridging over the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. If you are living with not enough hanging space and damp or musty clothes against an external wall, fitted wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

In a flat, a spare bedroom often doubles as a study or a guest room, so fitted furniture that keeps things out of sight helps it switch between them. Around Pentonville, most households live in purpose-built flats. Doors and drawers are planned to open fully in the space you have.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the design visit.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so it’s worth checking with the managing agent beforehand. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
  3. Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Getting a quote

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Practical tips

People planning fitted wardrobes often ask about these. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
  • For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Empty the area where we will be working

Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Hinges can normally be adjusted to line the doors up again, and sliding doors can be adjusted on their runners.

Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture. It keeps hinges and runners in adjustment longer.

Fitted wardrobes in Pentonville: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 35% of the housing in the area around Pentonville, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Pentonville is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. In Pentonville, a van will typically need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home during the design visit.

For a flat near Essex Road station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For an older house near Church of Saint Peter, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. Dr Johnson's House, about 1.4 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Questions we’re often asked

How do you fit fitted wardrobes in a flat in Pentonville?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Is Pentonville in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes, Pentonville is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Islington and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

The space in front of the wardrobe normally decides it. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We look at it with you when we measure.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The fitting depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The wardrobes are made in our workshop first.

Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?

Yes. The wardrobe is shaped to the ceiling line, keeping hanging space at the tall end and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns tricky space into storage.

How do I get started?

The first step is to use our contact form with a few details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Under a sloping ceiling, standard wardrobes leave most of the space unused. A fitted wardrobe can be shaped to the ceiling line, with hanging where it is tall and drawers or shelves where it’s low. Flats tend to have walls interrupted by doors, radiators and sockets, so off-the-shelf widths rarely fill the gaps. Built-in pieces are sized for each stretch of wall.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
