Fitted home offices in Vale of Health

Is bespoke worth it?

A fitted office can combine a desk, shelving and cupboards in one design. Ready-made pieces bought separately rarely line up. The result is a calmer, more ordered room. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Each side can be made to its own size.

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why us?

  • 300+ projects completed
  • We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Read bespoke vs off-the-shelf or what to look for in a quote.

How we make fitted home offices for Vale of Health

An alcove beside a chimney breast can take a neat desk with shelves above. The desk and shelves are scribed to the alcove, as period walls are seldom flat. The opposite alcove can carry shelves or a cupboard to match. It gives a home in Vale of Health a workspace that looks part of the room. We make home offices from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are glare from a window on the screen and shelving that bows under the load.

Floors in older houses often slope, but a desk top needs to sit level, so desks in older homes are levelled on site. Around Vale of Health, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so it is something we plan for from the start. The shelving above follows the wall, with the edges scribed.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Your questions about fitted home offices in Vale of Health

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Hampstead Heath station?

Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is it possible to have a desk under the eaves?

Yes, in a loft that is already converted. The desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand comfortably, and the low space under the slope can hold storage. We do not carry out loft conversions.

Do you wire in sockets for the home office?

We do not do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. The desk is planned with routes for cables and space for any sockets. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.

How long does it take to fit a home office?

How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Because everything is made at our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the room as tidy as possible while we work.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.

Pricing fitted home offices in Vale of Health

There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Parking near your home
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, message us from the contact page.

Helping us understand the room

These details help when you get in touch:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • How you want to use the space

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

What happens on fitting day

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so we ask for a clear space to work near the room. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us how you work and where you’d like the office, including the equipment you use.
  2. We come to measure and work out where the desk, shelves and cable routes should go.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. Your office furniture is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We bring it to your home, fit it and leave it ready to use, with cable routes left clear.

Before fitting day

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Getting a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To book one, get in touch through our contact form.

The most common reason is working from home. The kitchen table works for a while, then it doesn’t. A built-in desk and storage make working at home far easier.

Here’s what fitted home offices can help with:

  • Glare from a window on the screen
  • Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
  • A room with two jobs to do
  • An alcove or landing that could take a desk

For a flat near Hampstead Heath station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How they handle walls that are not straight
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

What it is made from

Doors and drawer fronts

Fronts are made from moisture-resistant MDF and painted to your colour. Panelled fronts can suit a period room. The gaps are kept even all along.

Shelves

Office shelving often carries heavy loads. Span, depth and load all matter. Each shelf is made to stay straight under what you plan to store.
