Finsbury Loft Storage

Loft storage in Finsbury: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. Each piece is designed at a visit to your home, made in our workshop and fitted by us.

  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised

Where other trades come in

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Any work on the structure of the house
  • Converting the loft itself, which is not our work
  • Electrical work in the loft

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and parts

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

Loft storage for homes in Finsbury

The space behind the knee wall typically has insulation and ventilation to think about. We design the storage so it doesn’t block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this at the measuring visit in Finsbury. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and a new loft conversion that needs storage.

Hallways in newer flats and houses are often short, with doors opening off every side, which leaves little wall for storage. Around Finsbury, many homes were built since 2000, so that’s worth planning for. A shallow cupboard can take coats, shoes and the vacuum cleaner without blocking a door.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Questions from Finsbury

I live near Old Street station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Islington and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Finsbury?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

How much does loft storage cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and we will arrange a design visit.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Typically not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can require listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No. We do not carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

How fitting day works

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, with heavier pieces tied into the studs. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber.

  1. You let us know about your converted or boarded loft, including the eaves and any dormer.
  2. We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
  3. The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How it’s made

Pull-out drawers

The space behind a knee wall is deep and low, so drawers that slide out are often the answer. Everything is in view when the drawer is open. They’re designed around any access points behind the knee wall.

Plinths and scribe strips

In a loft room, walls, slopes and floors are rarely straight. We use scribe strips and a plinth to take up the difference. The result is neat, even lines all round.

What it costs

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • How square the room is
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Helping us understand the room

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Fitted storage in Finsbury

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Finsbury were built since 2000 (about 36%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Finsbury include Church of St Giles (Grade I), less than half a mile south, and Wesley's Chapel (Grade I), under half a mile east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Near central London, streets tend to be narrow and busy, so carrying the sections from the van to the door takes planning, especially for larger pieces.

Close to Artillery Ground? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. The wider area includes historic houses such as Mansion House, about 0.6 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live in a flat close to Old Street station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.
