Oakwood Loft Storage

In Oakwood, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes
  • A dormer that is not being used

About our loft storage in Oakwood

Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. We design them around what you need to store in Oakwood. Typical reasons to get in touch are a loft room with too many jobs and unused space in a dormer, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Oakwood, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Eaves cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Fitting day, step by step

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
  2. We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and go through the design.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage we have discussed, for you to look over.
  4. We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use.

Advice

Flats, leases and landlords

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check during the design visit.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Oakwood homes and loft storage

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Oakwood were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 44%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Oakwood include Oakwood Underground Station (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-west, and Station Sign to North of Oakwood Station (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

For a family home near Wolfson Hillel Primary School, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. If you live in a flat close to Winchmore Hill station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Looking after your furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Make a list of what you want to store in the eaves
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom

When we have finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat the new finish gently at first. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.

Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. A little ventilation helps. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Your questions about loft storage in Oakwood

Is Oakwood in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London, and Oakwood is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Oakwood?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.

Will eaves storage block the ventilation?

Not when it is planned well. We look behind the knee wall at the design visit and plan the storage so air can still move. Insulation and ventilation work itself isn’t ours.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

That is normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there is height. It uses the full height of the room. We’ll work out the layout when we visit.

Why bespoke in Oakwood?

Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece cannot. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Fitted furniture is made around them.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What prompts loft storage in Oakwood

Standard wardrobes don’t fit under a sloping ceiling. Bespoke wardrobes follow the slope. It’s often the main reason people get in touch about a loft bedroom.

If any of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting in touch:

  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

If you live near Oakwood Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
