Loft Storage in West Heath

In West Heath, we design loft storage around the room you actually have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Boxes and suitcases with no home
  • Space under the eaves going to waste
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft

Loft storage designed for your room

About our loft storage in West Heath

A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. We shape wardrobes to the slope, putting hanging space at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it’s low. It makes the most of the room’s height. The design visit in West Heath is where we work it out. Most enquiries start with a loft room with too many jobs and boxes and suitcases with no home, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around West Heath, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the eaves cupboard we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

Storage in West Heath homes: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 73% of the housing in the area around West Heath, with about 17% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. There’s a conservation area within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of West Heath, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Bexley sets its own rules. Depending on your street in West Heath, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Tell us what the parking is like during the design visit.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Danson House, about 1.5 miles south. For a period home anywhere nearby, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. Living in a block of flats near Abbey Wood station? Then the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. For families living near Hillsgrove Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

West Heath is within the London Borough of Bexley, about 3 miles south of Sidcup. Design visits and fitting in West Heath can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. We cover places right across Bexley, large and small.

Postcode districts we cover here for loft storage: DA7, DA16 and SE2. Our area takes in homes on streets like Hurst Lane, Hadlow Road and Denton Road, along with the roads around them, whether you want loft storage or another piece made for the room. Main roads around West Heath include the A206. If your home is on one of them, tell us at the design visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. If you’re just outside West Heath, we also cover Abbey Wood (1 mile north-west), Crook Log (1 mile south), Lessness Heath (1 mile north-east), Upton (1 mile south) and Bexleyheath (1 mile south-east). Elsewhere in Bexley, we also cover Sidcup (3 miles south), Erith (2 miles east), Bexley (2 miles south), Northumberland Heath (2 miles east), Albany Park (4 miles south) and Bexley Riverside (2 miles east).

Pricing loft storage in West Heath

There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • The width and height of the space
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Parking near your home
  • The internal fittings

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • Any ideas or images you have saved
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Where you live, with the postcode

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Could you do it yourself?

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

Starting with a design visit

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf pieces come in the maker’s finishes. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the rest of the room. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that’s part of the price. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit.

Your questions about loft storage in West Heath

Is parking a problem for fitting in West Heath?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Because everything is made at our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.

Will eaves storage block the ventilation?

Not if it is planned with care. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft.

Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?

Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one cannot. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It is scribed to the slope and walls.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

How it’s made

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done on site once the storage is in. It is easy to touch up if it gets marked. That suits a room in daily use.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. It’s applied in our workshop, and the paint needs time to cure fully once fitted.
